BREAKING NEWS: 2001 Cold Case Solved as Police Arrest Correctional Officer’s Murderer

Vienna, Md. (DELMARVA NEWS NOW) – Maryland State Police have arrested a Dorchester County man in connection with the 2001 murder of a correctional officer.

Troopers say they arrested 46-year-old John Ingersoll, Jr. of East New Market in Easton around 11 a.m. Friday morning. Ingersoll has been charged with first and second degree murder in the death of 31-year-old Gregory Guy Collins, who was driving home from a shift as a correctional officer at Eastern Shore Correctional Institution in Somerset County in the early morning hours of June 4, 2001 when he was shot and killed.

Collins was reported missing later that day after failing to report for his evening shift at ECI. A Trooper later noticed a wooded area along Indiantown Road appeared to have a vehicle path through it. The Trooper then found Collins unresponsive inside the truck.

Collins’ niece tells Delmarva News Now “This is huge for my family. I hope we finally get some answers.”
