Flower Shop Manager Sentenced for Theft of Nearly $200,000

Salisbury, Md. (DELMARVA NEWS NOW) — Wicomico County State’s Attorney Jamie Dykes announced Tuesday that 37-year-old Kimberly Jo Harrison of Salisbury has been sentenced on embezzlement charges that she pleaded guilty to earlier this year.

Harrison embezzled over $180,000 from the business that employed her as a Sales and Office Manager, Kitty’s Flowers between July 2014 and October 2018. She did so by cancelling transactions within the cash register system, then stealing the corresponding amount of cash from the register. Prior to July 2014, the store’s software didn’t track canceled transactions so it is unclear whether she stole prior to that date.

Wicomico County Associate Judge Kathleen Beckstead sentenced Harrison to 18 months behind bars followed by two years of supervised probation. Harrison also payed full restitution to the victims.

In a statement to Delmarva News Now, Wicomico County State’s Attorney Jamie Dykes said “My sincere hope is that felony convictions and sentences like Ms. Harrison’s demonstrate to our community that crimes that stem from an abuse of trust will not be tolerated in Wicomico County.”
