Former Bennett High Guidance Counselor Sentenced to 20 Years

The Wicomico County State’s Attorney has announced the sentencing for former James M. Bennett High School Guidance Counselor Allen Mitchell has been sentenced to 41 years of prison with all but 20 suspended on numerous sex charges.

In October, Mitchell pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor, manufacturing of child pornography, contributing to the condition of a minor and telephone misuse in an obscene manner. Prosecutors say Mitchell engaged in inappropriate conduct with two students and sexual activity with another student while he was employed as a Guidance Counselor as James M. Bennett High School.

Mitchell faced a maximum of 41 years behind bars and was sentenced to 41 years with all but 20 years suspended. He will also be on supervised probation for 5 years and is forced to register as a Tier III sex offender for life.
