Laurel Man Arrested on Drug Charges After Child Overdoses

Laurel, De. (DELMARVA NEWS NOW) — Delaware State Police have arrested and charged 31-year-old Gilbert Dickerson of Laurel on drug and related charges after the accidental overdose of a child.

Troopers say on Monday, October 28 around 9 p.m. they were dispatched to a trailer park residence in the 2700 block of Pot of Gold Circle in Millsboro. A An 11-year-old had gone into cardiac arrest. 30 small bags of heroin were collected from the scene. The victim was transported to Al DuPont Children’s Hospital.

A law enforcement investigation uncovered that the 11-year-old victim had obtained the heroin earlier that day from a friend at Laurel Elementary School. The friend was driven to school by their stepmother, in a vehicle owned by their father, the suspect. Troopers say the drug was kept in an Altoid’s mint container, and neither Of the children were aware it contained a controlled dangerous substance. Laurel Elementary School personal were reportedly not aware of the exchange that happened on school property.

Dickerson was transported to DSP Troop 4 where he was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, 2 counts of first degree reckless endangering, unlawfully dealing with a child and 3 counts of dangerous drug activity.
