Delaware State Police continue their investigation into a string of church burglaries across Sussex County that took place over a matter of mere days.
The first incident took place between January 6 and 11 at Trinity Church located in the 17000 block of Phillips Hill Road in Millsboro. The second incident took place between January 8 and 11 at Saint Johns AME Church located in the 31000 block of East Trap Pond Road in Laurel. The third incident was at Carey’s United Methodist Church in the 22000 block of Careys Camp Road in Millsboro, which took place during the overnight hours of January 11.
While Troopers did not reveal what, if anything was stolen they provided a comprehensive list of safeguards to prevent break-ins and procedures to follow if your church or residence is broken into. The most important tip is to lock all outside doors and windows, check locks, install deadlocks, change locks immediately when keys are lost and leave lights on. If you notice a break-in you should not go into the structure because the burglar(s) may still be inside. At first notice of a break-in call 9-1-1, don’t touch anything and make note of suspicious persons or vehicles.
